Andréhn-Schiptjenko at The Armory Show
March 5-9, 2014
We look forward to welcoming you to our booth 707, pier 94 at the Armory Show where we are proud to be showing new and exceptional work by the following gallery artists:
Brad Kahlhamer (b 1956, USA) is of Native American ancestry and his work reflects this heritage while it is also informed by his interest in contemporary culture – rock music, comics, urban street culture as well as the mythology of the American West. Over the course of the past two decades, Kahlhamer has immersed himself in an artistic practice spanning painting, drawing, printmaking, sculptural installations and performance art. He is currently having a solo-show at the gallery and we are pleased to exhibit works on paper at the Armory.
Nandipha Mntambo (b 1982, Swaziland) works with sculpture, works on paper, videos and photography. Mostly known for her large scale sculptures often featuring a collision between cow-hide and the female body, her work deals with issues of identity, race and gender but also with the perceived dichotomy of the public and private, love and hate, attraction and repulsion, human and animal. As reference and sometimes as tool, Mntambo uses her own body. At the Armory we will be exhibiting a series of works on paper, drawings made with cow hair, oscillating between the figurative and the abstract.
Cajsa von Zeipel (b 1983, Sweden) works with sculpture in a larger-than-life-format with explicit references to fashion as well as to the masters of the Renaissance. A focal point of her work is the teenage girl and her attributes; ponytails, platform shoes and a provocative attitude. Traditional power structures are broken down and the hierarchies between object and viewer are dislocated. At the Armory show we will present her most recent group of sculptures.
The Armory Show opens on March 5 (by invitation only) and is open to the public March 6-9. For further information on The Armory Show please visit www.thearmoryshow.com.
