YNGVILD SAETER at Market Art Fair, Stockholm, April 12-14, 2019
Andréhn-Schiptjenko has the pleasure of inviting you to Market Art Fair at Liljevalchs Konsthall, Stockholm. We look forward to welcoming you to booth 22 where we will do a large presentation of Yngvild Saeter (b 1986, Norway).
Saeter has created an immersive installation where floors, objects and furniture form a whole. In her work, Saeter explores ideas about masculinity, protection, speed, the archetypal heroine and how these concepts are portrayed in contemporary culture. Her tactile, sculptural objects are made using motorcycle parts, metal rivets, chains and pieces of fur. These deeply personal works connect to the artist’s roots in the punk and straight edge movement. They form strange, highly visual hybrid shapes that defy categorization and her shield-like wall objects become a kind of urban altarpieces or coats of arms belonging to various subcultural families.
The redesigned monk chairs in the stand also refer to the artist’s identity and experience. The chairs have taken alien-like shapes and become sculptural hybrids oscillating between national romanticism and greaser aesthetics.
Yngvild Saeter graduated from Valand Academy in Gothenburg in 2014, and has also studied social and cultural anthropology as well as political science at the University of Oslo. Her work is currently on view in the exhibition Role Play, at the Orange Garden x Postmasters Gallery, Rome, Italy.
Yngvild Saeter is the recipient of the Sigvard and Marianne Bernadotte Art Award, 2019.
