Andréhn-Schiptjenko at Market Art Fair 2024: Art fair

Liljevalchs, Stockholm, 17 - 19 May 2024
We look forward to welcoming you to booth 4 at Market Art Fair at Liljevalchs in Stockholm, where Jacob Dahlgren will present new sculptures and wall-reliefs from his ongoing series Constructing a New World. The wall-reliefs are a new addition to this body of work and will be presented for the first time at Market Art Fair.

In several different mediums and in various scales, from lithographic prints to large-scale outdoor installations, Jacob Dahlgren has throughout the years continuously explored an abstracted version of nature in his series Constructing a New World. By observing trees and reducing them into symbolic entities, Dahlgren perceives the interplay between nature and abstraction, and between the tangible and the imaginative aspects of life.

Throughout his practice, Dahlgren’s work has been anchored in the colloquial and often based upon objects derived from everyday settings, which he elevates and imbues with new meanings. Referencing movements such as Czech constructivism or already highly reduced and abstracted structures, for example underground maps, corporate organization flowcharts or electrical wiring diagrams, Dahlgren fuses industrial and organic as a way of exploring the abstractions that surround us in our direct proximity.

Jacob Dahlgren was born 1970 in Stockholm where he lives and works. He received his MFA from the Royal College of Art in 1999. He has exhibited widely in institutions such as Trondheim Kunstmuseum (2023), Stavanger Kunstmuseum (2020-2021), Copenhagen Contemporary (2019), Museum Ritter, Waldenbuch (2017), MAGASIN – Centre National d’Art Contemporain (2016), KIASMA Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki (2013, 2011 and 2010), Henry Art Gallery, Seattle (2010, 2013), Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona (2010), Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt (2011) and Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2006). In 2007 he represented Sweden at the 52nd Venice Biennale.
