Matts Leiderstam at Tomelilla Konsthall, Tomelilla, Sweden: Solo-exhibition

Tomelilla Konsthall, Tomelilla, Sweden 19 June - 29 August 2021
Tomelilla Konsthall, Tomelilla, Sweden

Matts Leiderstam works mainly with installation, photography and painting. In his exhibition at the Tomelilla Art Gallery, Leiderstam presents a number of major works from the last ten years.

In Leiderstam's art, the present often meets the past. Repeating, paraphrasing and copying the motifs of art history or details of works, the artist explores perception and shows the way to surprising and parallel lectures of older motifs. It comments or redirects the view, the interrogation - and also stimulates the desire of the spectator to discover and see.

Leiderstam was born in 1956 in Gothenburg and is active in Stockholm and Malmö. He studied at the Academy of Arts Valand in 1984-89. He also holds an artistic doctorate from the Malmö Academy of Arts in 2006. Between 20110 and 2018, he was a professor of free art and is currently a researcher and director in the same department.
