The exhibition Best in Show takes its cue from the most powerful canine characters in art and literature and lets them wander into contemporary art. Here, beloved companion dogs, rowdy strays and lonely existential companions rub shoulders.
With loans from the Nationalmuseum, Moderna Museet, Magasin III and Lars Lerin's private art collection, among others, themes such as closeness, power, projection and identity are highlighted.
The dog appears not only as man's best friend. In art and literature, the dog appears as a threat, a comfort and an identification; a symbol and a catalyst for exploring our human culture and psychology.
The exhibition Best in Show – Dogs in Art and Literature invites us to an encounter between the non-human and the human – where the dog becomes the mirror in which we see ourselves.
