Annika Elisabeth von Hausswolff belongs to the generation of Swedish artists who emerged in the early 1990s, inspired visually by postmodernist art and theory. She represented Sweden at the 48th Venice Biennale in 1999.

Several of her early works relate to the situation of vulnerable women; the theme of violence features frequently, as in her well-known work Hey Buster! What Do You Know About Desire? from 1995. This theme is examined in the essay by Stefan Sjöström, professor of sociology, whose research shows a variety of ways on how the justice system handles sex crimes.

Anna Tellgren, PhD of art history and curator of photography at Moderna Museet, describes the artist’s works in her in-depth essay. Annika Elisabeth von Hausswolff has elaborated on psychoanalytical themes and also explored sculpture, fabric and installations.

The book will feature photographs and objects spanning from her entire career, and in her own text she engages with a selection of works, mainly photographs, in the Moderna Museet collection.
