Omid Delafrouz

Omid Delafrouz’s work is concerned with associative processes, history and culture. He has made himself known for his detail-oriented drawings and digital printouts, filled with objects that mark specific time periods within popular culture. A fundamental idea for his work has been an attempt to express a period’s zeitgeist. In his earlier work, he depicted people and places in his own surroundings with the same means and tools as the types of images his generation grew up with in the last two decades of the 20th century. This notion of capturing a zeitgeist, and his reinterpretation and revaluation of art historical motifs, expands in his recent work where a grand narrative of the 20th century is taking shape. Taking its departure from the epoch which poet Guillaume Apollinaire expectantly described as the “the time of fiery Reason”, Delafrouz describes his current process as “a belated tasting of the bouquet of the 20th century” and an attempt to “in the tomb of the mouth” collect fragments of the past century’s secondary aroma.

Omid Delafrouz (b. 1982 in Tehran, lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden) graduated from Malmö Art Academy in 2005 and finished his Master’s degree at Valand Scool of Fine Art in 2007. He has previously exhibited at institutions such as Allingsås Konsthall, Sweden; Eskilstuna Konstmuseum, Sweden; Bohusläns Museum, Uddevalla, Sweden; and Göteborgs Konsthall, Gothenburg, Sweden.
